May 31st

My $3 geranium. They had some sad looking flowers down at Lowe's Food a couple of weeks ago. I grabbed 3 of them. I think one has died and one's kind of iffy but this one is doing fine. I love the color.

May 30th

We had chicken and rice for dinner tonight and you have to have biscuits with it. I'm not sure why...

May 29th

No, not another birthday. It's my balloon since March and it is still tied to my computer at work.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Part way through this weekend, I realized this was going to be a harder holiday than I expected. Every newspaper, every news report are filled with stories of war and young men who have died. So I knew I wanted to get away on the actual holiday. So today, Arthur and I went to Mt. Airy, NC. Yes, that is Mayberry from the Andy Griffith Show. It is one of my husband's favorite shows. I posted several pictures because I know that there many other secret Andy Griffith fans out there (I think it is the same people who like fried bologna). BTW, Andy Griffith grew up in Mt Airy and based Mayberry on it. It is an actual town!

Me outside the Darlin's cabin.

Wally's Service Station and, of course, the police car!

Mt Pilot (Pilot Mountain)

The Snappy Lunch. It was closed so we settled for Barney's Diner.

Floyd's Barber Shop

Gomer's Tow Truck!

Arthur living a fantasy! Lol!

About 10 miles outside of My Airy is Shelton Vineyards so we made a side trip there. I have never seen a vineyard. It was fascinating.

The oak barrels for aging the wine.

The vineyards also have beautiful landscaping and encourage people to bring a picnic lunch. Of course, it you'd like wine with your lunch they won't object!

We had a wonderful time. Then on the way home, while I was listening to a patriotic song on the country station, Ben called from Iraq! He had also called at 2 am but I am rarely coherent at 2 am. He wanted to confirm that I said it was OK for Dan to meet him in Florida on his leave. (That was the 2 am conversation) It was great hearing from him and he sounded good. Thanks everyone for praying for him!

May 27th

Our friends, Avril and Curtis.
We went to church and then relaxed at home. We were just about ready to eat when Avril invited us down to their house to see Curtis's handiwork. He added about 12' of patio! All the men think it is horrible when one of them does something like this because then all the wives start getting ideas! Lol! It is beautiful and I'm thinking it would be a nice addition to our patio...

May 26th

Our poor sad dog. Lol! I told the groomer to shave her down for summer but leave the head and tail more look more like a westie. We are now calling her the lion queen! Ah well, she'll be comfortable for the summer and it will grow back.

It was pretty much a normal Saturday. I picked up the groceries; I'm now doing Lowes Food-to-Go. I saved about 35% by ordering them and just picking them up. I guess I don't succumb to temptation that way. Dropped Gracie off at the groomer, brought Rachel to pick up some shorts - we hit 90 here. After Arthur went to Praise and Worship, we went to 5 Guys for burgers and fries and then to see Pirates of the Caribbean.

May 25

Nothing exciting yesterday or today so I posted a couple of pictures of our local scenery.
When Arthur and I stopped to take this picture, 3 cars stopped to ask if anything was wrong!

May 23rd

My fuchsia! During the big storm, it blew all over the yard but somehow managed to dry out. All the buds fell off and I thought it was a goner. I'm beginning to sense a theme. Things I ignore and neglect seem to thrive. Hmmm...

May 22nd

Me at work. No, it's not real. We staged it for my Employee of the Month picture.

The honey suckle along our property line. I love the smell of it!

May 20th

After church today, we went to On the Border for Mother's Day. Yes, we know what day it is. On Mother's Day, we ate at home but Sierra had wanted to take me out another day and go get our nails done. But then Dan decided he wanted to go.... And then Arthur and Rachel felt left out... So we all ended up going! It was very good. Arthur managed to find a steak (he doesn't normally like Mexican). I had the Monteray Ranch Chicken Fajitas. Sierra and I had our nails done after dinner. I love weekends!

May 19th

Saturday morning, my friend Kris and I went to Artsplosure in downtown Raleigh. It was a perfect day and we enjoyed browsing the exhibits, listening to music, and spending a little money.

We got there early so it wasn't very crowded.

This is the work of Sandy Feat. It was fascinating to watch.

They had performers in Moore Square.

After the festival, we went to the Farmer's Market. Kris had never been. These were some of my booty. I spent more at the Farmer's Market than the art show!

After dinner (Dijon pork chops, fresh peas, fresh sliced tomatoes, and corn casserole) Arthur and I went to see Shrek at North Hills. Then we walked to the Starbucks and sat outside watching the water fountain - while drinking coffee and eating a cream cheese chocolate muffin of course!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BEN!

Today is Ben's 23rd birthday! I did get to IM him which was great.
We're proud of you Ben!

May 17th

Another visitor! This spider was about an inch long. That's about the biggest spider I have ever seen in real life. Arthur refused to get close enough for a picture!

May 16th

One of our noisy neighbors decided to visit. I think he was on his way for evening choir practice.

May 15th

Our brand new $70,000 toy at work - a flat bed printer. It is interesting to watch as signs come off of it. I am constantly amazed that the human mind has figured out how to make something do this! I'm also fascinated by copy machines that staple for you as well as copy and collate... And I still can't figure out the DVD player!

May 14th

Arthur's grape vine! Despite our benign neglect (we thought it was dead) , it is thriving and even appears to have tiny grapes on it.

My 13th

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY !!!
I am amazingly blessed. Today I awoke to roses from Arthur. Then I got to IM Ben for awhile. I told him it was wonderful how the army allowed him time off to IM his mother on Mother's Day! Dan brought me a funny card about Moms being the best snooze alarm which was ironic because I had been calling him about 4X to wake for church and a Rachel Ray DVD. Rachel gave me a card and candy for my sweet tooth. I got to have all 3 children that live here with me in church today. Arthur planned a wonderful lunch. (after the Disaster of '03 no one around here forgets Mother's Day) I had told him not to waste money and get frustrated trying to get into a restaurant, it didn't matter as long as I didn't have to cook or clean up (or unwrap it!) I was happy. All the kids participated in getting it together. Andy called after church and then I got to talk to my mom for a little bit. They had gone out for breakfast that morning since he had to work all day.

My roses!

Then there was a surprize gift!

A mixer!
I had recently mentioned that I'd love a kitchenaide for Christmas. Now that I actually have counter space to leave it out, I'd use it. I never expected it for Mother's Day.

Isn't it pretty! I did have to try it so I made a pound cake.
Finally, Arthur and I worked in the yard. We are rethinking the grass thing - He cut grass for and hour and a half and it's still not done. Lol! I weedwacked so I'm sensing that I may need a another massage. It was just a wonderful day all around!

May 12th

Saturday morning, we woke up to rain! Oh no! I had tickets at an outdoor venue for Brooks & Dunn and Alan Jackson at night! At 1:00, I had an appointment at the day spa for a hot rock massage, manicure and pedicure. It was a Christmas gift from my kids at Christmas. I never seem to be able to get 3 hrs free. It was wonderful! Meanwhile it was thundering and lightening off and on all day. I spoke to Rose and we decided to go anyway and see how it went. After the spa, we went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. Neither of our husbands like Mexican so it was a perfect choice. The lights blinked on and off .

Rose sporting her fashionable rain poncho!
We got the the pavilion and it was jam packed. Apparently, a little bad weather doesn't stop true fans. By the time we got to the gate, we were soaked to the knees!

Rose had some slight trouble getting through the gate because the scanner wasn't reading her water logged ticket.

Ok, so my loop is having a blog challenge - try to disprove stereotypes of your state. Unfortunately, I think we confirmed them. We had John Deer Lawn tickets - hence the tractor. You just find a spot on a big hill and (normally) spread out your blanket or rent $5 chairs and enjoy the show. Being the big spenders we are, we upgraded when we got there and had actual seats. At least we wouldn't get our butts wet! The show started at 7:30 and it only sprinkled a bit after that. Alan Jackson sang the song I added to the page. Of course, Brooks and Dunn sand "I believe" which is one of my favorites. I have never been to a concert where people were raising hands like they were in church. After we left, we realized that neither of us paid attention to where we parked. We usually have the guys with us and that must be their job. We were wandering through the parking lot looking for our car. Lol! Rose did remember that we parked next to a pick up truck. That wasn't a whole lot of help at a Brooks & Dunn concert in NC! Fortunately, she drives a bright yellow car so we eventually spotted it. After a brief concern where we were running on empty (Rose told me that if her car ran out of gas, I had to call my husband - she'd return the favor someday) we made it home.

May 11th

Along Smithfield Road. I'm not sure what they are doing but I see it all the time. Maybe someone knows?

And then there were 2. There are 2 lots right next to ours that they are building on . It's been gray and rainy but they were out on the roof when I got home today!

This should have been the final picture! Arthur forgot to take one of Dan with his license so I took one today.

May 7th

Today was an exciting day in the Potter household. Today Daniel got his LICENSE!!

First he had to wait for his number to be called. (It doesn't matter where you live the DMV is always great fun.)

Then he had to turn in all his paperwork.

Then there was the driving test.
He passed!

Now he had to wait to have his picture taken.

He got the experience of having a DMV mug shot taken.

And the wait for the actual license.
It's all a bit bittersweet. My baby is driving... Sigh... Time marches on.
