This is Sierra, age 19, my youngest daughter. She was going out last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Of the 3 children that moved with us, Sierra had the hardest time of it. She is very social and had to leave all her friends and, of course, extended family. Plus Andy (my 21 year old) and her hung out a lot, often with the same friends. I think she was ok until we got here and realized that this was for real. She had that attitude that North Carolina was stupid and everything was better in RI. I'm sure those of you who have moved recognize that attitude! We sat her down and said that she was here for a year and then she could go back but she would choose whether it was a miserable year or a good one. She could give it a chance here or bide her time but she was still in NC for a year. Needless to say, she loves it here now. We did let her attend public high school for senior year. It was a good experience for her. She was mature enough to handle the social aspects of it and enjoyed the fun stuff - homecoming, proms, activities, and the big graduation. She got a job at Target, became involved in a youth group, and made friends. She made a life for herself here. She has gone back to RI to visit but was happy to come back. Of course, she has had a boyfriend for almost a year, Andrew, so that might have something to do with it.
